The Georgetown Angel Network
Who will you fund Next?
The Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance is launching an angel network to connect Hoya investors and Hoya entrepreneurs.
The goal is to generate valuable deal flow for interested investors and to provide student and alumni entrepreneurs access to the capital and resources they need to be successful.
In order to establish the Georgetown Angel Network, the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance is initiating a pilot that will focus on making connections between Hoya investors and Hoya entrepreneurs so they can assess investment opportunities.
+ THE OPPORTUNITY
For Hoyapreneurs, access to capital is one of the biggest challenges in launching a new venture and Georgetown is uniquely positioned to help these investors. For Hoya investors, a network of like-minded alumni provides deal flow, connections, insight, and a broader pool of capital that mitigates risk.
The Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance currently engages with entrepreneurs and investors through its cornerstone annual programs: the Alumni Pitch Competition (John Carroll Weekend) and the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (Homecoming). The Angel Network provides another opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors in the Georgetown community to connect.
+ THE PILOT
We are launching a volunteer-led pilot, beginning with a single meeting where prospective investors can review and evaluate an investment opportunity:
• The pilot will be a single 1-hour conference call where an investment opportunity is presented to prospective investors.
• Following the call, investors will have an opportunity to express their interest to follow up.
• The presenting company will then follow up individually with each investor and any investment would be negotiated individually.
The goal of the pilot program is to convene investors in a simple, nimble manner in order to assess interest and potential in both the investment opportunity and an angel network.
The GEA will evaluate the results of the pilot with all relevant parties and determine next steps, with a goal of organizing additional calls. The volunteers who organize the calls will seek investment opportunities, screen them, and lead outreach to investors. During the pilot, participation in the network will be limited to alumni investors and entrepreneurs.
+ THE PROCESS
Investors and entrepreneurs with connections to Georgetown are encouraged to apply to the Georgetown Angel Network.
• If you are an investor interested in joining the network, please click on the "HOYA ANGEL APPLICATION" button.
• If you are an entrepreneur interested in capital and/or resources, please click on the "HOYAPRENEUR APPLICATION" button.
Applications will be reviewed and matched on an on-going basis. As investment opportunities are identified, investors will contacted to participate in presentations by Hoya entrepreneurs. Investors can request to follow up and will be connected directly to the entrepreneurs to negotiated the terms of their investment.
The Georgetown Angel Network is not responsible for due diligence and is not an intermediary in the investment. We work to make the connections between the entrepreneurs and the investors.
