The GEA Alumni Pitch Competition provides a platform to showcase Hoya-founded ventures, allowing Georgetown alumni to pitch their product/service/company to a panel of judges in front of a live audience of fellow alumni, investors, and Georgetown faculty, staff, and friends.
The Pitch Competition will take place over John Carroll Weekend in Boston, MA. John Carroll Weekend brings together 1000+ alumni for a weekend of social, intellectual, and cultural programming. We are pleased to have the Pitch Competition take place as a part of this signature event for the Georgetown University Alumni Association.
In order to compete, the team or individual must be present and able to deliver their pitch during the timeframe of May 2-5 (exact time and location TBD); inability to do so will result in disqualification.
In the first round of competition, applicants will be assessed based on their online submission and business deck submitted. The first round deadline is November 1, 2018. Those who advance to the semi-finals will be notified by the GEA in December 2018. Finalists will be announced in early January and will join us in Boston, MA.

Your “pitch” should verbally outline an entrepreneurial concept or idea in a short period of time. Each contestant is given eight minutes on stage to pitch their product or service. A successful pitch requires significant prior thought and research, and culminates in the ability to clearly and succinctly highlight the most compelling aspects of a proposed venture.
WHAT TO INCLUDE
• What is the product or service you are pitching?
• Is there a need for this offering in the market?
• Who is the potential target market?
• What is the total addressable market size?
• What key differentiators separate you from the competition?
• How does your business monetize?
• The Ask. How much seed capital is needed?
• Traction. What have you accomplished to date?
Participants are to complete the online submission form above and email their pitch deck to GEAboard@georgetown.edu by January 15, 2018.
On January 19, 2018 the GEA Board will evaluate submissions and pitch decks to determine eight applicants to advance to the semi- finals.
Semifinalist will be contacted by January 22 to schedule a pre-screening pitch in-person or via screen share.
The GEA Board will select four finalists to compete (and present) in front of expert judges during The GEA Alumni Pitch Competition during John Carroll Weekend in Seattle, WA.
The pitch deck should be an 8-10 slide PDF or PowerPoint surrounding your concept or idea. Please format to 16:9 to accommodate wide screen. While the oral presentation may involve the use of props, slides, or other visual material, the pitch deck must stand on its own without a written business plan.
The GEA Alumni Pitch Competition is exclusive to Georgetown University alumni. The team must include one (at minimum) alum of the Unveristy. The competition is open to graduate and undergraduate alumni.
The Georgetown alumnus founder must be represented at all pre-event conversations and serve as the pitch lead.
The pitched idea/concept/business must be the original work of the individual or team pitching.
Finalists will be given eight (8) minutes with expert judges to pitch their idea or concept and five (5) minutes for Q&A with the judges in front of a live audience.
Teams will be able to use PowerPoint, visual aids, props, or other items during their pitch; while visual material may be used, the presentation must stand on its own without a written business plan.
Winning individuals and teams will be awarded cash prizes and receive guidance to move their venture forward.
CONFIDENTIALITY & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Confidentiality is not guaranteed in any way. If a team wishes to keep elements of their concept or idea confidential, the team should not include that information in their pitch. There is no way for the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance, its affiliates, event sponsors or organizers to enforce a prohibition of other competitors, audience members or judges who see or hear a pitch from sharing the concept, idea, and/or materials with others.
By participating in the GEA Alumni Pitch Competition entrants agree that the GEA, GUAA, and all related parties assume no liability, and shall have no liability or obligation whatsoever for disclosures of information provided by a competitor as part of a submission or otherwise during the course of the competition.
Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) between a competitor and the judges and/or audience members will not be required or allowed.
The Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance, GUAA nor its partners, may take take photographs and/or video of any materials used or made available by pitching individuals or teams during the competition for public relations purposes.
The GEA is not responsible for any costs associated with applying or attending the event in Seattle. Travel accommodations and financing are the responsibility of the finalists.
Applicants and/or finalists may not contact judges from any round and judges are not to contact any participants during the course of the competition.
THE GEA AND ITS ORGANIZING COMMITTEE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY ENTRY IN ITS' JUDGEMENT THAT VIOLATES THE RULES OF THE COMPETITION OR IS NOT ALIGNED WITH THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION.
